Manchester City vs. Liverpool Expert Pick – April 1st, 2023

MANCHESTER CITY VS. LIVERPOOL EXPERT PICK – APRIL 1st, 2023 – Set your alarm, grab a cup of coffee and get prepared for the early match as Manchester City continue their quest for a Premier League title by looking for a win against a struggling Liverpool.

Manchester City are currently in excellent form and they continue to be on the heels of league leaders Arsenal for the Premier League crown.

They are undefeated in their previous six Premier League matches and have only one loss at the Etihad this year, boasting an impressive 11W-1D-1L record at home.

However, don’t forget that Liverpool did beat Manchester City 1-0 earlier this season. But that win was at Anfield and Liverpool at Anfield are a completely different team than Liverpool not at Anfield.

Liverpool looked to be getting back on track, but after smashing Manchester United 7-0, they have lost back-to-back games AT Bournemouth and Real Madrid without scoring a goal in either.

The word “AT” in the previous sentence is crucial. Liverpool’s away form has proven to be their downfall this season, having only picked up 12 points from a possible 39. When away from Anfield, Liverpool have an abysmal 3W-3D-7L record and have a -7 goal differential.

Pitch: Manchester City – Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England

Current PL Form: | Manchester City (WDWWW) | Liverpool (WDWWL) |

Last PL Match: | Crystal Palace 0 – 1 Manchester City | Bournemouth 1 – 0 Liverpool |

Head to Head

Draft Kings Moneyline Odds: | HOME: -170 | TIE: +310 | AWAY: +425 |

Prop Bets

| Over 2.5 Goals and Both Teams to Score (-110) |

Only 1 of the last 7 meetings between these 2 clubs has failed to produce a goal at both ends of the pitch. Also, only 1 of the last 7 meetings between these 2 teams has failed to produce over 2.5 goals.

| Riyah Mahrez to Score Anytime (+185) |

Riyad Mahrez hasn’t scored a ton of goals for Manchester City this season (only 5 in the Premier League), but he tends to show up in big games. With Foden’s absence, I expect Mahrez to return to the starting 11 this weekend and could see him playing a key role in this match.

Tips

  • Manchester City have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their previous 9 home matches against Liverpool in all competitions.
  • Manchester City have only lost 1 game in their previous 9 Premier League matches.
  • Manchester City have only lost 1 game at the Etihad this season.
  • Manchester City have not lost to Liverpool at the Etihad since November 2015.
  • There have been under 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Liverpool’s last 6 Premier League games.
  • Liverpool have only picked up 12 points of a possible 36 in away games this season.
  • Manchester City have only beaten Liverpool once in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in all competitions.
  • Phil Foden is ruled out against Liverpool, while Erling Haaland is a major doubt.
  • Luis Diaz has returned to training and may be fit to play for Liverpool for the first time since October.

The Word

This is a huge game for both Manchester City and Liverpool. If Manchester City drop points in this game, they could find themselves 10 points behind Arsenal and nearly out of reach for the Premier League title. Liverpool also are in a must win situation. If Liverpool lose this game then they will more than likely see their Champions League qualification hopes disappear.

I don’t expect Livepool to dominate possession. I have a feeling they are going to drop back and use the pace of Salah, Nunez, and Gakpo on the counter. Manchester City do have a tendency to leave open spaces at the back and Liverpool do have the talent to exploit that space.

Liverpool have been somewhat of a wild card this season and you honestly just don’t know what to expect out of them. One day they’re beating Manchester United and Manchester City, then the next day they’re losing to Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest.

Given Manchester City’s knack for getting points when they desperately need them, I expect them to squeak by with a tight win in an action packed end to end thriller.

PREDICTION: MANCHESTER CITY 2 – 1 LIVERPOOL
