Johnny’s Quick Picks

December 19 2023

After a nightmare weekend, we are inspired by our improbable Seahawks in on MNF. Nothing like so BIG MO! I’m in Hockey Mode now!

NHL

Vancouver at Nashville (-110)

The Canucks have been playing great hockey-but what goes up, always comes down. They are just 8-6 in their last 14 games and they don’t look like the hottest team in the NHL anymore. They’ve played a lot of games at home and lost to San Jose while beating up on sad sack Chicago.

Meanwhile, this Nashville club has started to play solid hockey. Winners of four in a row and 13 for their last 16, the Preds are on a roll!

Now the Predators have lost to Vancouver twice already this season. How many teams get swept in pro hockey in a season series? Not many. Nashville is 11-6 at home. This has turnabout written all over it. Go for it, ignore the Canucks hype.

Pick: Preds (-110)

 Colorado at Chicago (-1.5 goals)

Chicago really stinks right now. Fade the Blackhawks until further notice.

Ottawa at Arizona (+105)

I’m making a living on road teams with a layovers in Vegas. The Senators partied all night and now fly to Phoenix to face a rather nasty Coyotes team that plays well at home.

When was the last time Ottawa won a road game? Was Nixon President?

Pick: Arizona (+105)

College Hoops

Virginia at Memphis (-3.5)

I’m just not a Virginia believer, sorry Cavs fans. The Cavs only real road game this season was at Wisconsin and the Badgers cleaned their clocks 65-41. That’s right: 41. LOL. Shoot the ball, Tony!

Pick: Memphis (-3.5)

Stetson (+5) at FIU

It’s a Hatters Palooza! The Hatters have played some really good teams like UNLV, Houston and Miami.

Meanwhile, FIU can’t stop a nose bleed. Oh, and Stetson scores 80+ per game. Look out!

Pick: Stetson (+5)
