John Fredericks: Blue Jays at Astros Picks

JOHN FREDERICKS: BLUE JAYS AT ASTROS MLB PICK, APRIL 17, 2023 -Yesterday we went 3-2 and minus $40. Astros giving up seven unearned runs didn’t help.

Let’s try that again tonight.

Godzilla MLB Record 2023

18-10

+$517 for the Season

*Based on all wagers at $100 per game at money or run line odds as specified in Draft Kings. Note: If money line is -150 we are laying $150 to win $100, etc.  If we take +130 and we win, we win $130 for our $100.

Toronto at Houston (+110)

Anytime I can get Houston at home as an underdog I’ll take the price. The Astros looked putrid last night, giving up seven unearned runs and leaving about 30 runners on base – as well as over-sliding second base in a key situation. Baseball is funny – things turn around quickly. Blue Jays starter Kevin Guasman is not fooling anybody right now and Christian Javier always gives Houston a quality start. The Astros need this win to shut the naysayers up. They are building…

Pick: Houston (+110)

Cleveland at Detroit (Under 8 runs + 105)

Somebody wins this game 3-2. I love the pitching matchup.

The Tigers Matthew Boyd has given up only two earned runs in both of his starts this season and I expect a solid outing from him here tonight after throwing just 76 and 75 pitches respectively.

Cleveland has struggled lifetime against Boyd and they don’t hit much anyway.

Hunter Gaddis is a crap shoot but on his last start on the road in Oakland he gave up just one hit over six innings and no earned runs. Of course, that’s Oakland.

Cleveland’s bullpen has been solid this season with an ERA of 3.23 and a WHIP of 1.11.

Detroit has averaged just 3.7 runs per game against righties–hitting .206 as a team with an on-base percentage of .269.

Someday I will actually win a runs play. I’m due!

Pick: Under 8 runs + 105

Pirates at Colorado (-140)

I really like the Pirates this year. They have been playing winning baseball.

Except when Rich Hill tries to defy gravity. Hill gets the start tonight in the light air in Denver. It’s home-run derby for the Rocks! Hill is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA over 15 innings. Bombs away!

Meanwhile the Rockies go with their ace Kyle Freeman who is 2-0 with a 0.96 ERA in 18 innings pitched.

Pick: Rockies -140
