Aston Villa vs. Newcastle United – April 15th, 2023

ASTON VILLA VS. NEWCASTLE UNITED – APRIL 15th 2023 – Scrolling through the headlines, one would typically just pass this game up, but don’t dare scroll past this one.

Aston Villa (6th) will welcome Newcastle (3rd) to Villa Park in the opening match of Saturday’s Premier League program.

Since being promoted back into the Premier League in 2019, Aston Villa have not finished in the top 10 of the Premier League table. Newcastle was promoted back into the Premier League in 2017 and have only 1 top 10 finish since being promoted.

This season, however, both teams find themselves in a very good place for Champions League qualification. So once again the early game of the weekend should prove to be a thriller.

Unai Emery

Aston Villa have completely turned themselves around under Manager Unai Emery and are undefeated in their last 7 Premier League matches.

This past weekend Aston Villa came away with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest, recording their 3rd straight clean sheet victory at Villa Park. They should be coming into this match high on confidence.

Newcastle United came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 in their last league match, maintaining their spot in the top 4 with their 5th straight Premier League victory.

With several teams still breathing down their neck for a top 4 finish, this game is of utmost importance for Newcastle. Aston Villa have proven tough to beat at home, but Newcastle have also proven that away games are not an issue for them.

Prop Bets

| Tie or Newcastle & Over 2.5 Total Goals (+125) |

Newcastle claimed a 4-0 victory when these two teams faced off earlier this season and Newcastle have only lost 3 times this season out of a total of 29 games.

Aston Villa are averaging 2 goals per game in their last 5 Premier League outings and over 2.5 goals have been scored in 4 of Newcastle’s previous 5 games.

Yes, Aston Villa are on a tear right now and have 3 home clean sheets in a row, but somehow Newcastle always find a way to steal points so you can see why it’s hard for me to bet against them.

| Both Teams to Score Yes (-130) |

Aston Villa have scored in 17 Premier League games straight and Ollie Watkins is in great form in front of goal right now.

Newcastle have scored in each of their last 5 Premier League matches, averaging 2.6 goals per game during that span, and both teams have scored in 4 of their last 5 outings, so you can see why I’m backing goals for both teams in this game.

  • Aston Villa are unbeaten in their previous 7 Premier League matches.
  • Aston Villa have kept a clean sheet in 5 of their last 7 Premier League matches.

The Word

Aston Villa are in excellent form this season and they’ve proven that they can hang with the big boys. They have wins against Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United and also picked up points against Manchester City. However, until Newcastle actually start losing games there is no way I’m betting against them.

In this game, I think set pieces are going to prove to be the difference maker for Newcastle. Aston Villa have struggled defending set pieces this season and scoring off set pieces just so happens to be one of Newcastle’s bes strengths. Aston Villa loves to defend using the offside trap and Newcastle are known for straying offside often.

I’m predicting a close match and both teams are going to have to work hard on figuring out a way to break through, but I think it’s safe to bet on Newcastle to at least pick up a point from this one.
