Premier League Picks: Matchday 13

Sunday Fun Day

Matchday 12 was a round of midweek fixtures that pretty much underwhelmed. Although, the primary fixture between Tottenham and Manchester United proved to be exciting. In the other matches….Crystal Palace came from behind to get 3 points, Newcastle United won again, Liverpool were saved by Alison, Fulham officially got Steven Gerrard sacked, and Leicester City poured salt in Leeds United’s wound. All that excitement means your senior Premier League analysts is absolutely jacked for matchday 13.

This week is offering up some fixtures that should have your mouth watering. On Saturday morning the two stubborn sides of Everton and Crystal palace will go head to head, Saturday afternoon Chelsea will be taking on Manchester United for the weekend’s main event, and on Sunday for the weekend’s encore, Newcastle will try to continue their winning ways at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

So, with that being said, let’s take a look at our Matchweek 13 fixtures.

Odds: | HOME: +110 | TIE: +240 | AWAY: +250 |

Current Form: | Chelsea (DWWWW) | Manchester United (WDWWW) |

Head to Head:

Man. United 1-1 Chelsea 04/28/2022 Premier League
Chelsea 1-1 Man. United 11/28/2021 Premier League
Chelsea 0-0 Man. United 02/28/2021 Premier League
Man. United 0-0 Chelsea 10/24/2020 Premier League
Man. United 1-3 Chelsea 07/19/2020 Eng. FA Cup

The Word

This is the standout match of the week. Both teams are in excellent form at the moment anda re currently at the top end of the table. Manchester United are unbeaten in their last 5 matches since being beaten by Manchester City and they are coming off a big win against Tottenham Hotspur. It wasn’t all pretty for Manchester United though. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo left the stadium before the game was over after having issues with manager Erik Ten Hag. Will he be at Stamford Bridge on Saturday?

Chelsea haven’t lost sice Graham Potter took over as manager. Under Potter, Chelsea are 5-2-0 in all competitions, with a goal differential of +11. Chelsea also have put up 4 clean sheets in a row, but their best defender Reece James remains out with injury. I think the in form offense of Manchester United put up a goal, but Chelsea will equalize not long after. I see a splitting of points in this one.

PREDICTION: CHELSEA 1 – 1 MANCHESTER UNITED

Wolverhampton (18th) vs Leicester City (19th)

Date: Sunday, 10/23/2022 at 09:00 AM EST

Pitch: Wolverhampton – Molineux Stadium, Wolverhampton, England

Odds: | HOME: +130 | TIE: +230 | AWAY: +220 |

Current Form: | Wolverhampton (LWLLL) | Leicester City (WDLWL) |

Head to Head:

Wolverhampton 2-1 Leicester City 02/20/2022 Premier League
Leicester City 1-0 Wolverhampton 08/14/2021 Premier League
Wolverhampton 0-0 Leicester City 02/07/2021 Premier League
Leicester City 1-0 Wolverhampton 11/08/2020 Premier League
Wolverhampton 0-0 Leicester City 02/14/2020 Premier League

The Word

Leicster City has been one of the most disappointing teams of the young Premier League season. But both of these teams are struggling and Wolverhampton are only one spot above Leicester in the relegation zone of the table.

Leicester City have started to show signs of good form though and are coming off of a 2-0 win. I expect a low scoring game because Wolverhampton are pretty good defensively, especially on their home pitch. I think Leicester sneak one by though and steal a win in this one.

PREDICTION: WOLVERHAMPTON 0 – 1 LEICESTER CITY

Southampton (14th) vs Arsenal (1st)

Date: Sunday, 10/23/2022 at 09:00 AM EST

Pitch: Southampton – St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, England

Odds: | HOME: +490 | TIE: +310 | AWAY: -180 |

Current Form: | Southampton (WDLLL) | Arsenal (WWWWW) |

Head to Head:

Southampton 1-0 Arsenal 04/16/2022 Premier League
Arsenal 3-0 Southampton 12/11/2021 Premier League
Arsenal 1-3 Southampton 01/26/2021 Premier League
Southampton 1-0 Arsenal 01/23/2021 Eng. FA Cup
Arsenal 1-1 Southampton 12/16/2020 Premier League

The Word

Arsenal had the week off from Premier League action this past week, but they did win their Europa League game 1-0. That is Arsenal’s 3rd win in a row (in all competitions) with a score line of 1-0. Where have all the goals gone? Doens’t really matter though, they continue to win and continue to find themselves at the top of the Premier League table. I don’t expect the wins to stop this weekend when Arsenal head to St. Mary’s Stadium to fave Southampton.

However, Southampton did manage a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth in their last match. Che Adams scored his third goal of the season in the South Coast Derby. But I still don’t expect Southampton to put an end to Arsenal’s 4-game Premier League winning streak.

PREDICTION: SOUTHAMPTON 0 – 3 ARSENAL

Aston Villa (17th) vs Brentford (10th)

Date: Sunday, 10/23/2022 at 09:00 AM EST

Pitch: Aston Villa- Villa Park, Birmingham, England

Odds: | HOME: +115 | TIE: +240 | AWAY: +250 |

Current Form: | Aston Villa (LLDDW) | Brentford (DWLDL) |

Head to Head:

Brentford 2-1 Aston Villa 01/02/2022 Premier League
Aston Villa 1-1 Brentford 08/28/2021 Premier League
Brentford 1-0 Aston Villa 02/13/2019 Eng. Champ.
Aston Villa 2-2 Brentford 08/22/2018 Eng. Champ.
Brentford 2-1 Aston Villa 12/26/2017 Eng. Champ.

The Word

Aston Villa are currently sitting in 17th place in the Premier League table. A team with the 7th most expensive roster should not be that close to relegation. I guess that’s why Aston Villa’s owner’s decided it was time to part ways with Manager Steven Gerrard. It’s still not clear who will take the reigns against Brentford on Sunday, but whoever it is I’d say their number one priority will be to “not lose”. Buuuut I think that they will.

PREDICTION: ASTON VILLA 0 – BRENTFORD 1

Tottenham Hotspur (3rd) vs Newcastle United (6th)

Date: Sunday, 10/23/2022 at 11:30 PM EST

Pitch: Tottenham Hotspur- Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London, England

Odds: | HOME: +110 | TIE: +250 | AWAY: +250 |

Current Form: | Tottenham Hotspur (LWWWD) | Newcastle United (WDWWD) |

Head to Head:

Tottenham 5-1 Newcastle 04/03/2022 Premier League
Newcastle 2-3 Tottenham 10/17/2021 Premier League
Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham 04/04/2021 Premier League
Tottenham 1-1 Newcastle 09/27/2020 Premier League
Newcastle 1-3 Tottenham 07/15/2020 Premier League

The Word

Tottenham are coming off a tough 2-0 loss this past weekend against Manchester United. I’m not all that surprised though because for some reason Tottenham don’t do well against big teams. The question is now though, is Newcastle a “big” team? This game could go two ways. If Tottenham score first, then Antonio Conte can park his defense. If Newcastle score first then Tottenham will have to go into attack mode which will make then vulnerable.

Newcastle have been in excellent form this season and still only have one loss. Listen to these stats….They’re currently 6th in the table and top 5 in goals scored per game (1.64), top 5 in goal differential (+9), AND they’ve given up fewer goals than any team in the Premier League. I don’t know about y’all but I’m all aboard the Magpie Train.

PREDICTION: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1 – 2 NEWCASTLE UNITED

West Ham United (13th) vs Bournemouth (12th)

Date: Monday, 10/24/2022 at 3:00 PM EST

Pitch: West Ham United- London Stadium, London, England

Odds: | HOME: +185 | TIE: +310 | AWAY: +550 |

Current Form: | West Ham United (LDWWW) | Bournemouth (LDWDD) |

Head to Head:

West Ham 3-5 Bournemouth 09/05/2020 Friendly
West Ham 4-0 Bournemouth 01/01/2020 Premier League
Bournemouth 2-2 West Ham 09/28/2019 Premier League
Bournemouth 2-0 West Ham 01/19/2019 Premier League
West Ham 1-2 Bournemouth 08/18/2019 Premier League

The Word

I think West Ham United’s roster has some excellent players on it. They just haven’t been able to put it together enough to get into proper form. They aren’t allowing many goals, but they also aren’t scoring them. Last weekend they had a pretty good performance against Liverpool, and would have drawn had it not been for an excellent PK save by Liverpool’s Alison Becker.

These two sides are honestly pretty even when it comes to statistics. Take away the 9-0 thrashing against Liverpool, Bournemouth have a comparable goal differential. Bournemouth and West Ham haven’t faced off in Premier League action since January of 2020 where West Ham came away victorious 4-0. I think West Ham make it two in a row.

PREDICTION: WEST HAM UNITED 2 – BOURNEMOUTH 0
